La Compañia de Energía Eléctrica de Tokio (TEPCO), que gestiona la central nuclear de Fukushima-1, muy dañado por el terremoto y posterior tsunami del 11 de marzo, ha comenzado este miércoles a utilizar el sistema de refrigeración mediante la circulación de agua en el reactor 1 de la planta después de conseguir activarlo en los otros tres reactores, según la agencia Jiji.
TEPCO, the Tokyo electric power company, which manages the Fukushima -1 nuclear centre, severely damaged by the earthquake and the subsequent tsunami of March 11, has started to utilise the cooling system using circulating water in reactor 1 this Wednesday after successfully activating them in the other three reactors, the Jiji agency has told.

El terremoto afectó al funcionamiento de la planta y al sistema de refrigeración de los reactores. Estos resultaron seriamente dañados por el tsunami y su núcleo llegó a fusionó parcialmente.
The earthquake affected the functions of the plant and the cooling system of the reactors. They were severely damaged by the sunami and the core reached partial meltdown.

In the impossibility of connecting the cooler, TEPCO decided at first to introduce se water to cool the reactors. But after numerous attempts they were unsuccessful in stabilising the plant, which started to emit radiation to the outside.
